The advent of Cognitive technologies has the potential to take BPM suites to a whole new level. If implemented, such systems would have highly adaptive process design and they can self-learn about their own performance (not only based on technical metrics but also business metrics like cycle time, variance, throughput, exceptions, value-added/non-value-added ratio, etc.). These systems adapt and optimize based on the learning from previous similar transactions as well as unstructured data present. For the BPM enthusiast, it could be visualized as a potent combination of Adaptive Case Management, Decisioning, AI and Big Data.
